NBC, warts and all, was better with announcing hockey games. I've not been impressed with any of the announcers ESPN has had so far. McDonagh is fine but he's not exciting. Buccigross should never call hockey games. I'm willing to give Leah a chance because chemistry with announcer-commentator pairings doesn't just happen immediately. Back in the day, I found a stream that showed a regular broadcast, but kept the booth audio going during commercial breaks so you could hear all the banter between the announcers. Depending on the broadcast crew, I’d pay extra for that.

Hextall has flunked some basic NHL-level broadcaster skills, like always knowing the names of everyone on the ice, even as lines change on the fly.
