It was impressive that I was able to hit 41 and 43 MPG on each leg of the trip. Considering the RAV4 Hybrid has an estimated 38MPG highway, I'm glad I was able to surpass those estimates.

The RAV4 feels like it sits up a little higher and the Forester feels zippier, but the specs are pretty damn close. I chose the Forester after having one for a rental and he chose the RAV4 because he got a good deal through Costco. I’m particular about visibility and the Forester had a better view out the back window.On the other hand, the CR-V is quieter, has better interior, lane centering, audio system, driving feel, mechanical AWD, and has much more space inside. It has more space inside, at least visually speaking, I didn't measure anything. The visibility is much better and the transmission is so, so much better than the Honda.

From my point of view, the "equivalent" technology packages will bring the total price of the XLE Premium up to $40100 and the XSE $41200 (so roughly a $1000 difference). In my head, the XSE has a nicer interior, the panoramic view would be amazing to have, but TBH I don't care at all about the panoramic sunroof.

For reference a 2019 rav4 pre Covid base msrp was $25k. The RAV4 hybrid e-CVT is a completely different design, it's a planetary gear set with two motor-generators (ie. no belts, no chains). It is extremely reliable, even more so than a regular torque converter automatic, and the way it harvests energy and uses the motor-generators is simple, reliable but highly effective. It's literally nothing but a few gears because the electric motors are what vary the speed. Look up Weber Auto on YouTube and look for his video on the RAV4 eCVT transaxle.
