There is a difference in a soft clip and a hard clip. When you start smelling voice coil it's time to give it a rest. I have yet to experience that with my skar ddx15 dvc 2 ohm, probably because with box rise and efficiency I'm only getting 800 watts out of a 1000 watt amp that was dyno'd at 1,007 at 1 ohm. Should have got the skarId look at getting a different more reliable amp, and maybe Sale the Skar.. Thats me though. Seems like a PITA... I was suspicious about the quality of Skar products given their price point. I sent the 1200-watt amp to a lab to have it tested. Efficiency was under 65% at 1-ohm and the amp shut down in under four minutes. It's fully unregulated and made only 975 watts at one-ohm. I guess I should have known better.
