Moved to Erie site unseen in 2020. I agree that Big Bar SUCKS to meet new people. Erie is quite “clicky”, but if you would like to go to a good bar downtown and give it a shot I recommend Calamari’s, Room 33, and Plymouth (not prime time hours). You’ll do alright as long as you aren’t a “ball bag”

Two hotels I'd say aren't quite as nice but are decent (not too many shady people, clean enough, etc) are LaQuinta and the Quality Inn by the casino. Worked at both, and I'd stay at them myself. Only hotel I can say to avoid without question is the Avalon. Hampton Inn & Suites on Erie Bayfront is brand new, right near the water and downtown Erie.
