Here is my method; with the magazine removed, pull the slide back and place an empty shell casing in front of the chamber, rim down and the casing standing up just like a stove pipe jam. Let the slide go forward locking the empty shell casing into place. Now, push the recoil plug in and simply turn the barrel bushing with your fingers.

It is more than just a tool, you need a specially machined guide rod for it. It is much simpler just to use the paperclip tool. As far as I can tell, it would be impossible to strip a 4" Kimber without a tool of some sort, due to the way the guide rod & spring are set up. I watched a couple of YouTube videos where the Kimber Take-down tool was used. MHO is that little tool makes me nervous. A couple of guys use the 1911 Ultra Take Down tool.
There is an online take down and re-assemby web site. I'm at work but will post the address when I get home if someone does not beat me to it. Once you get it apart and put it back together once, you know it for life. The 1911 is a very simple pistol to take down and put together. Just takes a little patients and research.
