Should be pretty evident when you pull the rear cover off. When I got rid of my 3rd bad Lucas "dynamo" I used a standard 3 wire Delco alt.

I turned it back on, and everything seemed normal until I tried to engage the PTO again, and the tractor just died again, as if I shut it off.
