It took me a good solid 15 years of living there to get a good foundation of where to go. Of course snow conditions, road conditions, etc….Since Missoula sits on the valley floor, we can get extra grey days when the clouds get trapped due to inversion. You can drive out of the valley on a cold, grey, winter day and be greeted by sunny and lovely weather. Missoula is drier than Seattle, but I think the technical sunshine duration per year is comparable. Missoula's spring is usually 2 or 3 weeks ahead of Bozeman's. Bozeman has bigger mountains for hiking but Missoula has rafting/floating pretty much right downtown. Both have great beer and tons of places to drink it.
