I've been in this area for quite a while, and there is nothing even vaguely comparable to what you will find on the East side of the state, Idaho, Montana, etc, etc. Some activity in lakes, but rivers with good populations of trout are unfortunately somewhat hard to come by.

The sight fishing has been incredible and seeing 18 inch trout come up and slowly inspect flies has made me a paranoid fly tier. In rivers fish only have a few seconds to decide to hit something. Squirmy wormy's may "lessen the experience" for you. For some of us we are still learning and enjoying any experience we have. Some of us live in places where we don't get to "dry fly" fish all day long. We have to do what we can with what we have. I can tell you that in my first 10 years of fly fishing I could dry fly fish all day.

One thing to realize about ultralight fly rods and their lines is that the stepdown increment gets smaller as the line weights get lighter. So the effective difference down to a 0-weight isn't much from a 1-weight. Actually, the increment from a 2-weight to a 0-weight is about the same as from a 3-weight to a 2-weight.
