Solution: you are not having the pet/thrall use the food, you are using it for yourself but from their inventory so the food item must be something the player character can eat/consume. It doesn't matter what food you put in their inventory, so long as it's food you yourself can eat.

It reverted to "drink water, eat, climb" when those were already long done. I had similar issues in the past and used the mod to mark the step as complete to allow me to continue. Master mason won't be sand stone or stone brick, try some of the T3 buildings. Can try replacing pieces other than foundations too if it doesn't work.
